Peritoneal dialysis-associated peritonitis caused by Dermabacter hominis.
Dermabacter hominis was the cause of a peritoneal dialysis-associated peritonitis. D. hominis was identified by phenotypic criteria and by sequencing the 16S rRNA gene. Clinical cure was achieved with cefuroxime treatment despite the isolate's reduced susceptibility to this drug (MIC, 12 mg/liter) on in vitro testing. The successful treatment was probably due to the high concentrations attained...
متن کاملPeritonitis caused by Chryseobacterium meningosepticum in a patient undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.
Chryseobacterium meningosepticum is rarely encountered as a pathogen causing peritonitis in adults. A 54-year-old woman who underwent continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis for 8 years developed peritonitis due to C. meningosepticum. Although she received intravenous antibiotics with good in vitro activity against the organism, the fever and signs of peritonitis persisted. The Tenckhoff cath...
متن کاملChryseobacterium indologenes peritonitis in a patient with malignant ascites
Chryseobacterium indologenes is an uncommon pathogen of human disease and is usually associated with indwelling devices or immunocompromised hosts. We report here an unusual case of C. indologenes peritonitis in an oncological patient with malignant ascites. The patient was treated successfully by trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole without removal of the catheter.
متن کاملCiprofloxacin treatment of bacterial peritonitis associated with chronic ambulatory peritoneal dialysis caused by Neisseria cinerea.
Bacterial peritonitis is a well-recognized complication of chronic ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) in patients with end-stage renal failure. We present a case of peritonitis due to an unusual pathogen, Neisseria cinerea, unresponsive to the standard intraperitoneal (i.p.) vancomycin and gentamicin, which responded rapidly to oral ciprofloxacin.
متن کاملComment on “A Case of Healthcare Associated Pneumonia Caused by Chryseobacterium indologenes in an Immunocompetent Patient”
Chryseobacterium indologenes is nonmotile, oxidase, and indole positive Gram-negative aerobic bacilli which is widely found in plants, soil, foodstuffs, and water. It can colonize hospital environment due to ability to survive in chlorine-treated water supplies. Chryseobacteria can also colonize patients via contaminated medical devices such as respirators, intubation tubes, humidifiers, intrav...
